A remarkably evocative picture of Italy between the wars, the film remains one of the great triumphs of world cinema.
- Pain & GloryMon, Jan 11ODEON HarrogateJan 11, 7:30 PMODEON Harrogate, E Parade, Harrogate HG1 5LB, UKThis semi-autobiographical film tells the story of an ageing film director, sick and alone, unable to do any creative work. He looks back over his life, from his impoverished childhood to the highs and lows of his career. Antonio Banderas and a luminous Penélope Cruz star in a richly textured film.
HARROGATE FILM SOCIETY AT A GLANCE
Now in its 64th year, Harrogate Film Society is run by a group of film enthusiasts in an informal, welcoming atmosphere. Once again, we are proud to present a programme of critically acclaimed and diverse films from all over the world, in turn entertaining and thoughtful, sometimes unusual and stimulating, virtually all rarely screened in the United Kingdom.
All films are presented using the latest digital technology in comfortable surroundings.
Harrogate Film Society is a member of Cinema for All and The British Film Institute.
As well as our core programme of contemporary films from around the world, we also sponsor and actively support the annual Harrogate Film Festival, and organize occasional film-related events in the local community under the banner of 'Flash Film'.

HARROGATE FILM FESTIVAL
Harrogate Film Society has sponsored and supported the festival since its inception. Films we have screened under the auspices of the festival include Reservoir Dogs, American Psycho and The House That Jack Built.
With this initiative, our goal is to promote film in the local community. Films we have shown under this banner include Some Like it Hot, Brooklyn and Cabaret, in venues as varied as the North Bar, the Manhattan Club and Harrogate Theatre.
BUY A TICKET
Due to coronavirus restrictions, we're unable to run our full season this year. Instead we're showing a short season of six films at the Odeon. In order for us to manage numbers effectively, tickets for these films will need to be purchased online. Tickets for a particular film will become available two weeks before the screening, with members being given priority access for the first week. If there are any surplus tickets after the first week of booking, those surplus tickets will go on sale to non-members.
Unfortunately, because Harrogate has been moved into Tier 3, cinemas are no longer allowed to open, so we've had to cancel our mini-season.
If you would like to find out more about what we do, please get in touch using the email address or telephone number provided in the Contact Us section.
PAY AS YOU GO
Harrogate Film Society welcomes members and non-members alike. For the 2020-21 season only, all payments will need to be made online, on a pay-as-you-go basis. No payments will be taken on the door.
