Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars | May 17 | 7pm  |  Director :  D A Pennebaker | 1973 | 120 + Minutes |  Documentary | Venue - Bilton Club on Skipton Road

The July 3rd, 1973 historic concert of the 'leper Messiah'. This was to be David Bowie's last concert with the Ziggy persona and the Spiders from Mars. A great medley of 'Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud'/'All The Young Dudes'/'Oh! You Pretty Things', a Lou Reed cover, and a Rolling Stones cover are but some of the highlights. Great solos and playing from Jeff Beck and Mick Ronson.

David Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust, his most famous alter-ego, in front of 5000 stunned fans at London's Hammersmith Odeon. The fully restored film and soundtrack was released on Blu-Ray for the first time for the 50th anniversary of the show. Renowned filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker (Monterey Pop, Bob Dylan - Don't Look Back, Depeche Mode - 101) captured the momentous event by filming Bowie and The Spiders From Mars backstage and onstage.

A great opportunity to be in the audience for Bowie's last-ever performance at the Hammersmith Odeon.

Despite his subsequent great music and many different images over the years this was Bowie at his absolute peak of perfection both musically and visually.

Each movie will be introduced by Harrogate author and broadcaster, Derek Shelmerdine. He will set the scene for the film and provide insight into the background. Derek is the author of Rock'n'Roll Unravelled, which tells the story of rock'n'roll from its roots to late 70's punk.

Places are limited to 80 for this event.  Book your tickets here on our website, at any of our events or on the door (if you dare risk not booking).

Tickets will be available to HFS members, their guests and the general public on a first come, first served basis.
