About the Event
The Blair Witch Project | 1999 | 15 | Dir. Daniel Myrick & Eduardo Sanchez | US | 101 mins | IMDb 6.5 | B&W
Three students (Heather, Micheal, and Joshua) embark on a hike into the Appalachian Mountains in search of a local myth, known as the Blair Witch. We watch the documentary as they made it, interviewing residents as they tell their chilling tales, camping in the creepy surroundings, and encountering the powers that be.
After initially being conceived in 1993, it took directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez a further six years to get their project completed. Made on a tiny budget which then went to gross phenomenally well across the world, The Blair Witch Project might’ve not been the first found footage film, but it undeniably greatly popularised the genre. Seeing things from our characters’ perspectives, the film invites you in to anxiously scan each frame for potential threats and presences. Not only is it branded as one of the most successful independent films of all time but easily one of the scariest psychological horrors ever made.
